Pretty Rachael in her lovely red dress got everyone cheering for her at the end of a wonderful performance. She wowed everyone with ‘I Love to Love’ by Tina Charles and the judges paid her accolades, and Uncle Ben did not hold back –“a new school swag for an old school song”, he said. Joba, the guy with the voice that reminds Mummy J of rich chocolate raised the bar as he serenaded a girl with Kenny Roger’s ‘Lady’. His demeanour and composure was greatly commended by the judges and was asked to be careful anytime he crouches to sing so as not to sacrificing singing for performance.
Zaliha showed a beautiful display of aggressive emotions that ‘Get there’ by Oleta Adams requires. The judges really commended her and expressed their surprise at such boldness. Ruth, the first class philosopher couldn’t really perform up to par as she started the song ‘How Do I Live’ by Leanne Rhymes with an off-key which the faculty promised to fix as the show progresses. Roy got everyone to a frenzy-state of excitement as he performed Michael Jackson’s ‘Dirty Diana’. The accompanying guitarist jazzed-up the performance and the judges commended him for a job well done.
Big boy Isaac was not able to control his huge voice when he performed ‘Apologise’ by One Republic and Mummy J reminded him that with his voice type, he should remember that less is more. Aziga on his part tried stepping up his game when he sang ‘This Love’ by Maroon Five but did not escape singing some flat notes which the judges caught, but the faculty promised to work on this. Emmanuel sang ‘Hotel California’ by The Eagles which earned him a loud applause and the judges thanked him for obvious improvement. Monica did a good presentation of ‘Let’s stay together’ by Tina Turner. She got everyone cheering for her and the judges loved her interpretation but told her to be careful with the loudness of her voice. With her adorable looks and a beautiful top dazzling like a million stars, Yvonne broke free from her shy-shell as she boldly sang Anita Baker’s ‘I love you because’. Kwame personally could not believe his eyes, because she sang so well but warned against the danger of being nasal.
Ethel did justice to Thelma Houston’s ‘Don’t leave me this way’. The judges thanked her for giving everything that was needed to do a good performance. The Liberian girl sure looked like a princess when she held everyone spell-bound at the rendition of ‘Angel’ by Sarah Mclachlan. The ambience changed as she extracted every ounce of emotion that she needed for a beautiful performance and totally wowed everyone, but her not-so-appropriate diction did not escape the ears of the attentive judges. Saving the best for the last, ever consistent Ese performed Mariah Mackee’s ‘Show me heaven’. She was absolutely amazing and it took great efforts to calm the audience.
At the end of the day, Ruth, Chidinma, Isaac, Aziga, and Emmanuel again landed in the judges probation net.
