Academy Day 57: Towards the Grand-Finale!

Academy Day 57: Towards the Grand-Finale!

While the D-day draws closer and the tension rises, the contestants work harder to give their best this weekend. Rehearsals in top gear at Miss Ige’s class and also in Uncle Ben’s class warming. Miss Ige took time to dwell on Ese’s song which seem to be a bit challenging especially with the not-so-easy notes in the song.

She was able to pull through the initial challenges as she rehearsed well and learn the emotional requirement of her song in Uncle Ben’s class. The others took turns to rehearse under Uncle Ben’s tutelage but Monica did not escape his wrath as he sent her out of the class for giggling unnecessarily in class, next to be sent of class was Ethel for not doing her home work well before coming for the class.

He later invited them back into the class but punished Ese, Monica and Ethel for not doing their song well. A tedious task of cleaning the entire mirror in the music room was their punishment.

As the competition draws to its final, make your favourite contestant the winner by sending his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if in Liberia and Nigeria, from Comium line if in Sierra Leone and text to 1739 if in Ghana. Ese(4), Ethel(5), Monica(10), Roy(13), Ruth(14) and Yvonne(16) need your votes now more than before.

Academy Day 56: Life in the Academy!

The contestants were still excited and basking in the euphoria of their new place of abode, when Mummy J came in for her class. They were glad to have her in the Academy for the first time and her class was commendation all the way. She talked about their last performances and took time to analyze them one after the other.

It was also Uncle Ben’s first class in the Academy. Ethel came in late for the class but found grace in the sight of Uncle Ben, he congratulated them all for their last performances and encouraged them to work harder for the final huddle. In preparation for the final lap of the competition, they were all asked to choose a song they would want to relive;

Academy Day 53: Finally @ The Promised Land!

At last, the final six contestants made it to the Academy! Wow. Their excitement knew no bounds as they got in surprise entrance into their new abode. Seventeen contestants made it to the boot camp but six contestants made it to the Promised Land. Awesome!

As though that wasn’t enough, they were all given the opportunity to call someone. Yvonne called Dad, Ese her boyfriend, Ethel called her boyfriend too, Monica called her parents, Roy talked to his Dad and he gave his fatherly advice, and Ruth also called Daddy and it was a beautiful display of their dialect.

These contestants sure have missed their family and can’t wait to go back to their families but not without winning the competition. So keep voting for favourite to make him/her your winner!

Academy Day 52: @ Naija FM!

These contestants need your votes to scale through,so they made it to Naija FM to solicit for your votes. Ese(4), Ethel(5), Monica(10), Roy(13), Ruth(14), and Yvonne(16) sang ‘we wish you a merry christmas’ for everyone in the studio after having a time out on air.

It was song interpretation in Mummy J’s class especially as they prepare for their personal composition night. Miss Ige’s class was rehearsals and more rehearsals even as they get set for the weekend...

Academy Day 51: A Trip to the Cinema!

It has always been said that ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. With a lot of excitement and joy the contestants made their way to the cinema leaving all the hardwork of boot camp behind.

Wow! They were all short of words and a bit indecisive as to what movie to watch. But they eventually settled into one and had fun all the way before heading back to the boot camp...

Academy Day 50: Preparing for Christmas!

Yippee! It’s Christmas. Miss Ige doled out the different songs for the carol nite this weekend. Immediately the ambience changed as they all got into the mood of the season. They also have Naija dance hits, and a group song to prepare for.

Uncle Ben’s class was rehearsal all the way. In his usual funny meanness, he took them through the rigours of rehearsals and they all seem to be up to the challenge.

Miss Kaffy was available to ginger them especially with the Naija dance hits. After her exit from the boot camp, they all settled down to the business of rehearsing.

These last six contestants still need your votes to scale through to the end, keep voting for your favourite!

Academy Day 49: Princess and Rachael's Party!

Princess and Rachael’s exit from the competition was unexpected but they took it in good fate, thanking God for having made it thus far. They then made their way to the venue of their eviction party.

It was another fun and excitement time as these budding stars met with their fans, and ‘Dizzy’ was on ground as the compere for the evening.

When asked to predict the winner of the competition – Monica was Rachael’s pick, while Ese was Princess’ choice. After this brief interview, they went ahead to have a blast with their fans. With so much to eat and drink... the party started in a grand style and continued to the wee hours.

We wish them all the best...

Academy Day 46: You decide the winner!!!

The end is in sight! The RAV 4 and cash and recording contract are within grasp!! You decide who win now!!! With three more weeks to the end of season 4, Ese(4), Ethel(5), Princess(xx), Rachael(xx), Roy(13), and Yvonne(16) are fighting their way to remain in the competition.

In today’s class, Uncle Ben took them through the songs they will all be performing this weekend. Ethel was first to sing, then Princess as each of them took turns to rehearse their songs and finally together they rehearsing group song ‘Olori Oko’ by Infinity. Though not so smooth yet, they are all working hard to give nothing but the best this weekend, even as Uncle Ben in his usual funny but strict manner encouraged them to put their very best and not perform below standard when they get on stage.

Later in the day, they all made their way into town to solicit for votes. Ruth and Monica came along with them even as they stopped by Beat FM. The presenters lightly scolded but still encouraged them and applauded Monica and Ruth for a good performance.  From there, they took off to NYSC Orientation Camp, Lagos where all the Corps Members in camp were eagerly waiting for their arrival. Getting on stage, the contestants sang individually to the listening pleasure of everyone, but Roy got everyone on their feet in excitement as he performed the ‘NYSC Anthem’. Youths obey the clarion call....

The contestants’ on probation’s clarion call for your votes is high. To vote for your favourite, text his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if in Liberia, Nigeria, or Sierra Leone. But peeps in Ghana can text to 1739.

Academy Day 45: Learning to Act!
It’s another ‘pirate drama’ time in Mummy’s class. The first seen played Rachael as ‘Stab’, Roy directing again, Princess playing the background drums while the others produced the required sound effects. The next scene had the contestants swapping roles with Ese acting hysterical Ejire, Monica read Feyi, Ruth read Rawley, while Yvonne directed the scene. It was a really a very interesting time in class. Miss Ige’s class later in the day was rehearsals and more rehearsals. Contestants pairing for duets. First to rehearse was Yvonne and Roy, followed by Ese and Ethel, and the last duo, Ruth and Monica. Cobhams also came to rehearse personal composition with the contestants as they all get ready to perform their very own songs!

Academy Day 44: Personal Composition with Cobhams

It was drama time in Mummy J’s class and drama with a difference. The first scene had Rachael and Ethel as tables, Ruth as a cultist who came to warn Yvonne a lecturer, with Roy directing the scene. The next scene had the table turning in the favour of Ethel and Rachael while Yvonne and Ruth took over the table position. This led to other more interesting scenes;  it is evident that these contestants can do more than just sing and are really talented in other ways.

Academy 43: How will Yvonne and Roy cope this weekend?

Academy 43: How will Yvonne and Roy cope this weekend?

The contestants were so pleased to see Mummy J. With gorgeous head gear and corresponding silver accessories, she was really a beautiful sight to behold. She settled into her class and in her usual motherly demeanour, and one after the other pointed out the flaws in their last performances timing to correct them; but she did not forget to applaud Monica and Ruth who performed excellently well, and Ese as well whom she feels did not performed badly with her song.

Roy and Yvonne having been paired together to perform Sunny Ade and Onyeka Onwenu’s ‘Wait for me’ seemed to be struggling with the song. Miss Ige in her class addressed them and told them to brace up to the challenge of the song. She then went ahead to rehearse with the others, working on their duets and individual songs. She hit hard on their need to do proper adlibs, sound good notes, and accurate harmonisation.

Academy Day 42: Ade Bantu's Visit!

Academy Day 42: Ade Bantu's Visit!

Highlights of the past week started today’s show and it was Ade Bantu’s visit to the boot camp for a mentoring session with the contestants.

Ade Bantu is a Nigerian/German artiste and music producer who have worked with the likes of UB 40, African China, Adewale Ayuba and many others. From his wealth of experience and knowledge, he advised them broadly on issues that border on music, telling them not to limit themselves to a particular genre of music, be open to all kind of music. ‘Music is also a spiritual thing, and you are only a vessel’. Expose yourself to different music styles and be hardworking because it takes a lot of hard work, he advised further. Singing sure is a lot of hard work for these budding stars!

A brief clip of Sunday’s show dovetailed into their evening class where Uncle Ben in his class asked why they goofed at their last performances. They all gave different excuses for their poor performances...will excuses take anyone to fame? Uncle Ben in his usual attitude talked senses into them and then doled out the songs to be performed by weekend.

Academy Day 39: Yippee! Cobhams in the house!!!

Cobhams Asuquo, a songwriter, singer, pianist, and producer was a guest at the last weekend’s show and also made it to the boot camp to have a mentoring session with the contestants.

He started by explaining what it takes to write a hit song. Children songs, rock songs, hip hop, and other genre of songs and the lines that characterises the genre of the song. ‘if you try to sell yourself to a group of people and you don’t completely identify with them, then your song may not be a hit’ he said. He also took them through the technicalities of song composition. He concluded by saying ‘keep it nice and simple’ and promised to visit them again soon.

Academy Day 38: Rehearsals all the way!

Academy Day 38: Rehearsals all the way!

While some found singing reggae songs easy, some contestants like Princess had issues with their lines. This became obvious while rehearsing their group song ‘World of our own’ by West Life. It was rehearsal and more rehearsal in Uncle Ben’s class. Even in Miss Ige’s class, some of them couldn’t really pull through.

What would do the magic by weekend, are they going to evolve and surprise everyone? What are we to expect?

Meanwhile, the voting lines are still open for you to save your favourite. To keep your favourite in the competition, text his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if you are in Liberia and Nigeria. If in Sierra Leone text from Comium line and in Ghana text to 1739.

Academy Day 37: Uncle Ben's Counsel!

Miss Ige’s class was rehearsal, rehearsal and more rehearsal. Roy seems to be having issues with his song, Ese too? Should we start calling for help for them or are they preparing to pull a beautiful surprise this weekend?

Uncle Ben engaged them in an interesting discussion. Why do you fall short of expectation on stage? He queried? While most were blank, Ese tried to make excuses for everyone. Uncle Ben’s voice was raised as he advised them on how important it is to be disciplined to ensure excellent performances.

Academy Day 36: Drama @ the boot camp!

Academy Day 36: Drama @ the boot camp!

What could ever make a full-fledged adult cry? Velma was all tears at Miss Ige’s class because she did not perform up to standard because she had a cold that day. Is that enough reason to underperform or even cry? Clearly this is a case of ‘rough road to stardom’.

Miss Ige though gently scolded the contestants who did not perform up to standard; she generously poured her admiration at Rachael who brilliantly did beyond expectation last weekend.

Later in Mummy J’s class it was drama time again. A beautiful display of a game-like drama, miming a machine and each contestant adding unto the other, and then forming a story. Roy started acting as a fan, Isaac as the celebrity that needs the fan; Velma, Ethel, Princess as the clothier, make-up artiste, and hair stylist. Yvonne acted the artist/painter, Ethel as a reporter, Ruth a passerby, and Ese interprets this drama. They continued and obviously enjoyed themselves.

The six contestants on probation seem to have mixed feelings of happiness and thoughts of elimination. To save your favourite, text his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if you are in Liberia and Nigeria. If in Sierra Leone text from Comium line and in Ghana text to 1739.

Your vote could make the difference!!!

Academy Day 35: Feeling Aire!!!

Academy Day 35: Feeling Aire!!!

It’s the weekend for feeling ‘aire’. After a brief highlight of the weekend show that landed the contestants on probation, Uncle Ben in a more relaxed demeanour charged all the contestants to always be at their best. ‘The standards you all have set over the last few weeks, has raised the benchmark in the hearts of people and as such you cannot afford to bring it down’ was a summary of his counselling session. He went further to correct the obvious flaws in their last performances and encouraged them to keep up the high standard.

He finally reeled out the songs they will be performing this weekend. It’s a weekend of reggae ‘it’s root, it’s real, it’s soul, it’s you... this got all the contestants excited and challenged.

With Ethel(5), Velma(15), Ese(4), Ruth(14), Roy(13) and Isaac(6) on probation, the show gets tougher. If you want any of them back in the academy  then start voting now, send their unique number to 306 from an MTN in Nigeria and Liberia and in Sierre Leone to 306 from a Comium line. Viewers in Ghana should send the unique number to 1739 from an MTN line.

Academy Day 32: Contestants @ The Palms!

It was another rehearsal time in Miss Ige’s class with the contestants on probation trying out their best for the weekend. The only challenge Miss Ige pointed out with Joba’s performance was the lack of appropriate emotion that the song requires. Princess sounded very great with Celine Dion’s ‘Power of Love’, she sure is a singer to look out for.

Rehearsal time in Uncle Ben’s class can be a nightmare for these singers at times. But today, they were really up for the challenge as they passionately practised their weekend's songs before making their way into town.

Later in the evening they went into town to meet their fans. They stopped by ‘The Palms’ Lagos and performed different tracks of world class artistes to the listening pleasure of the happy crowd who took time to listen to these budding stars. These probationers did not forget to solicit for votes so as to remain in the competition.

Emmanuel, Roy, Chidinma, Joba, Ruth, and Princess would be singing their way out of probation this weekend. Who and who will sadly say goodbye to the competition?

The heat goes on...

Academy Day 31: Drama @ the Boot Camp!!!

Academy Day 31: Drama @ the Boot Camp!!!

Drama, drama and more drama. Right from Uncle Ben’s class, when Ruth and Joba came in late. Imagine what their punishment was? Uncle Ben while humming Ese’s song made Joba carry a bottle of water on his head while Ruth had a cup of water on her head. While this went on, Ese followed by Monica and then Ethel rehearsed. Ruth and Roy rounded off the class with rehearsals for the day.

Meanwhile, Roy, Rachael, Ruth, Chidinma, Emmanuel, Princess and Joba are still pleading for your votes. Don’t forget to vote for anyone of them by texting his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if you are in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. But if you are in Ghana, text the unique number to 1739.

Later in the evening, they did a very interesting task given by Mummy J. They chose to mime ‘I Look to you’ by Whitney Houston dedicating it to Zaliha. Surprisingly the contestants actually showed how multi-talented they are. You just need to see the video to know how beautifully they acted their parts. While Roy got beaten to death by Emmanuel, Joba and Ese as heartthrobs, Isaac acted a wicked Dad, while Velma played Mum with Ethel and Princess as her daughters. All going through not so pleasant situation which eventually made them ‘look to you’!

Looking to you once again are the contestants on probation, don’t forget to vote for them.

...whatta feeling!

Academy Day 30: Preparation in top gear!

Roy the laughing fitness instructor. . Imagine him laughing while taking the other contestants through their usual early morning exercise.

“Red Eyed” Uncle Ben found only Roy and Princess ready for his class.  Those not in class saw his ‘red eyes’ true true.  Where were they? While some were in their rooms, some were idly lounging in the garden.
After an official pardon, He then took them through their group performances. While the first group of contestants seem to be finding their ‘Earth Song’ a bit challenging, the other group seem to be pulling favourably well with their ‘Rivers of Babylon’ song.

Academy Day 29: Experiences!

The day started with much flapping of the hands, as Monica led the exercises to mimic birds flying smoothly through the air and perhaps through this weekend’s performance.

Miss Ige’s class was rehearsal time aimed at correcting the flaws of last weekend,  you can see the improvement.

The evening task was an introspective session that discussed how the contestants have learnt to cope with each other. It’s a must watch, so if you missed, check out the video.  The boot camp is really quite an experience!!!

Roy, Joba, Emmanuel, Princess, Rachael, Chidinma and Ruth need your votes. To keep your favourite contestant in the competition, text his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if you are in Liberia and Nigeria. Comium users in Sierra Leone can also send to 306 while in Ghana text the number to 1739. Loads of prizes are up for grabs for voters in Nigeria.

Isaac apologized to everyone in Uncle Ben’s class for all the trouble lately and assured them of being totally changed.(Guess we will have to wait and see?) Uncle Ben then advised all of them to deflate their egos and embrace humility before taking them through their group performances.

Academy Day 23: Isaac Again?!

After Uncle Ben's friendly chat yesterday, the contestants must have been thinking he had dropped his ‘king of mean’ traits and embraced ‘Mr. Nice’. They had the shock of their lives when he came for his class. First to face the brunt was Princess, whose diction issues reared its ugly head again and ‘t-e-a-c-h’ became a hard nut to crack, but thank goodness she’s got lovely fellow contestants who are ready to teach her.

The guys were not spared as he practically sent them all out of his class and specifically asked Isaac and Joba to go pack their luggage and get ready to leave the competition after flouting Roy’s orders who happened to be the captain for the week.

After the usual rehearsing of songs and vocal training in Miss Ige’s class, Uncle Ben decided to play Mr. Nice with the contestants as he joined them at lunch where they discussed as friends. He made them speak their minds about what they miss badly outside boot camp. Ethel seems to miss watching musical videos, Isaac seem to have a crush on someone, may be Ruth, may be Ese, time will tell.

While Zaliha has been greatly inspired by Ruth’s generous disposition to help with her songs and Ese’s magical performance ability. Monica, who seems to always quiver at any point in time she make mistakes explained why she does so.

Academy Day 18: Bez and Praise-A surprise to the contestants!

The six probation contestants got a chance to be guests on Classic FM, after their early morning exercise, to canvas for votes.

After a spirited appeal on Classic they also when to both Naija FM, and Beat FM. Their appeals were so passionate it is clear none wants to leave the competition yet. They all confirmed why they were placed on probation and are working to improve in those areas.

Academy Day 17: The art of blowing vuvuzella!

Academy Day 17: The art of blowing vuvuzella!

Have you ever blown a Vuvuzela before? It can be confusing, which end are you supposed to blow? So when Miss Ige presented the contestants with them to help with a lip-rolling exercise someone didn’t know the right end to blow from. Find out who from today's video. Miss Ige focused on breath control while taking them through their scales, then she had to deal with Isaac-mania as several others had bones to pick with him.

Uncle Ben continued with running them through their scales and then split them into groups to prepare them for their group performances.

Meanwhile, the six contestants on probation are still in the business of begging for your votes. To keep them in the competition, send their unique numbers to 306 from an MTN line in Nigeria and Liberia, and a Comium line in Sierria Leone but to 1739 from an MTN in Ghana

Academy Day 16: Happy Birthday Roy!

Academy Day 16: Happy Birthday Roy!

The contestants had a sweaty morning as they went through the fitness class. Aziga and Ruth took turns taking them through rigorous exercises.

The contestants whose birthdays don’t fall within PF will sure be jealous now. First, was Princess’s birthday, then Kamar and now Roy. Mummy J came in for her class with a beautiful ‘piano-shaped’ cake for him. Guess who sent him birthday notes? Kamar and Joe!!!. Everyone sang for him, Ese and Yvonne shared the cake as Roy read out the letters from Kamar & Joe.

They all settled in to serious business of the day as Mummy J worked through ‘t-h-e’ exercise, in a bid to help their diction. The exercise required them to form different sentences and then act them out. Princess was up for it this time under Mummy J’s thorough scrutiny. She promised to continue in her next class.

Academy Day 15: Listen, Learn, and Deliver!

Academy Day 15: Listen, Learn, and Deliver!

The six contestants are in for a lot of trouble from their tutors this week. Miss Ige started with Isaac and corrected his flaws in the last performance, next was Chidinma who had issues with breath control. Chidinma will not find it funny at all, she was advised to dip her  face in a bucket of water and timed to teach her how to properly control her breath. Next was Emmanuel, whom despite his rich tone, still doesn’t know how to control it. Her  parting assignment was rigorous abdominal exercises to help all of them with their breath issues.

Uncle Ben in his characteristic manner challenged them. Using Kamar and Joe as a yardstick, jittery at performance time and singing like stars after eviction, why? ‘Why don’t you put your best to your performances from the word go?’ he asked. He referred to Ese as a perfect example of ‘less is more’. Does that mean she’s going to come tops at the end of the day?...fingers crossed.

He took time to call each of them out one after the other to address the re-occurring flaws in their performances. He called out Roy to explain what made him perform outstandingly and reminded them on the rules of performance which is listen-learn-deliver.

The music world out there is a jungle; everybody is fighting to get to the top. First thing you do is find your place and find your way to the top, were his concluding words!

For Aziga (1), Chidinma (2), Emmanuel (3), Isaac (6), Ruth (14), and Velma (15) they need your votes to remain in the competition. All you need do is: SMS the contestant's unique number to 306 from an MTN line if you are in Nigeria, Liberia and in Sierra Leone from a comium line. But if you are in Ghana, text to 1739 from an MTN line.

Academy Day 14: Joe and Kamar @ The Place!

Academy Day 14: Joe and Kamar @ The Place!

The eviction party was bubbling before Joe and Kamar found their way to the venue.

Adesewa and lots of fans of PF were already mingling and in the party mood as she waited for the duo to arrive at The Place in GRA, Ikeja.
The fun include a karaoke challenge and some ‘Yellow carpet’ interviews. If you missed it on TV checkout the video.

Joe and kamar were in great spirits even though they didn’t expect to be out of the competition so soon. They still appreciated the exposure it has given them already. Guess who surprised them with a visit? a dashing young performer from PF season 2, Anis Halloway from Sierra Leone. He gave them a few of the success tips that has helped him succeed after PF 2. They gave great performances to the dancing and cheering party-lovers and had fun.

You can see lots of exciting and smashing pictures of them coming soon on our flickr page.

We wish both Kamar and Joe all the best as they move their career’s forward ...

Academy Day 11: A Display of Innate Talent!

Academy Day 11: A Display of Innate Talent!

Emmanuel took the early morning fitness session.

The probation 6 made BEAT FM, CLASSIC FM and NAIJA FM their “Meet & Greet” locations, reaching out to all their teeming listeners.  It was interesting to hear them yarn in pidgin and also switch to their local dialects in order to connect and communicate with all of West Africa. They did a good job of seeking voters and enjoyed the visit too.

The creative task for the day was led by Joba, who announced the task as one to entertain others and pour out their emotions. Ethel opened the floor with a beautiful poem, several others showed ‘never before seen’ dance steps, some hilarious others more than you could have expected. Of note was a comical one-man drama. It was really an excellent display of innate talent.

Remember two of the contestants are going home at the next elimination show on Saturday night, so keep voting for your favourite to keep him/her in the academy.

Academy Day 10: Contestants in trouble!

Academy Day 10: Contestants in trouble!

Ever pretty mummy J took time out to listen to the probationers. She particularly listened to their diction and underlying emotions. She was very impressed with the obvious improvement, but will this impress the judges?
Miss Ige  made the contestants on probation rehearse their songs while Kamar played the guitar. They have all improved so much especially Aziga in the area of emotional displays.

The day became very dramatic when Uncle Ben found almost everyone lounging or sleeping and in his classic style then made them to start jumping, with hands on the head while they sang ‘oh my home, when shall I see my home...’

Unfortunately, two contestants will come to the end of the road in this competition soon, and see their homes this weekend.

You sure don’t want to see your favourite contestant go home now.
Then keep the votes coming...

Academy Day 9: For Tomorrow's Sake!

Academy Day 9: For Tomorrow's Sake!

Mummy J was elegantly dressed today and creatively taught the contestants elocution and diction through interpreting a play. The play was a pathway to explore the realm of imagination, interpretation, speech, diction, and improvisation. She made them read the book ‘For tomorrow’s sake’. Which teaches why everyone should be careful with how they live today, because it determines our tomorrow. The contestants took turns acting out the play in the book, under the principals watchful eye while she corrected their mistakes and eventually achieved her aim.

Academy Day 4: Dispute @ the Boot Camp!

Academy Day 4: Dispute @ the Boot Camp!

Day started with the normal morning fitness class, but lurking beneath the surface were some issues!

Velma as the leader of the week had had a run-in with both Isaac and Aziga. Mummy J, would have none of that and summarily asked for explanations from all parties.

It was a communication issue with Isaac about where his food was, and a matter of respect between equals with Aziga, if you missed it catchup in videos section. Mummy j settled the matter like the mother she is.

Ige’s class was a long ting. They can hold their breaths for a long note now. Wow singing is not easy. Always full of surprises, uncle Ben’s class witnessed a change of names. Kamar is now to be known as “kamoru” and Rachel – “Salawa”.

It was another day with lots to learn and the contestants are lapping it all up, because their stay in the Academy may depend on it. Lets see what will unfold tomorrow.
