A Night of Classic Soft Rock!

A Night of Classic Soft Rock!

The effect of yesterday’s eviction was still very fresh in the air as the contestants began to realise the essence of the competition. It was another night where they all gave it their best to escape the judge’s probation list.

Opening the floor was the sonorous Port Harcourt girl, Chidinma. She held everyone spellbound as she rendered ‘Wind beneath my wings’ by Betty Midler. The judges commended the tone of her voice and the personal feel she gave the song, but reminded her to be careful with pitching to avoid the risk of shouting. Next was beautiful Saro girl, Velma doing ‘From this moment’ by Shania Twain. The judges enjoyed her performance but pointed out that she could have done better than what she did, and the faculty promised to work on her.

Bez & Praise Rock Project Fame Stage!

Bez & Praise Rock Project Fame Stage!

The contestants were all in high spirits, gorgeously decked and ready to give their best, after yesterday’s display of forgiveness by the judges, that saw noone sent home.

To spice up the show Bez was present as a guest artiste and judge, along with him was Matilda Duncan who gave sharp insights in the absence of TY Mix and Nomoreloss.

Chidinma opened with a beautiful rendition of ‘Listen’ by Beyonce and it was a great way to start. This ushered in gentle Zaliha who with a chic, naughty school girl look performed Adele’s ‘Rolling in the deep’, as a matter of fact it wasn’t an easy song to render, the judges remarked. Big boy Isaac was next to perform ‘Water runs dry’ by Boyz 11 Men which the judges felt he struggled with. Calm and collected Aziga must have felt so good with himself after successfully singing Lionel Richie’s ‘Stuck on you’. But the judges felt there’s still more this Port Harcourt dude could do. Liberian Princess sure dressed like a priceless princess as she elegantly performed Whitney Houston’s ‘Greatest Love’.

Nomination Show 3: A Night Of Top Bill Board Hit Songs!

Nomination Show 3: A Night Of Top Bill Board Hit Songs!

After last night’s moment of critical decisions where Brenda and Kemi had to exit the competition, the remaining eleven contestants dazzled the whole of West Africa with wonderful performances.

Setting the pace for the evening was Joshua, singing ‘Burn’ by Usher. The ease with which he moved on stage and impressed everyone was commendable and the Judges couldn’t but praise his delivery. Next in the line was Didi who dramatically pulled through Bruno Mar’s ‘Grenade’. Though the Judges felt he tried, but also encouraged him to do more.

One would wanna ask what could be in the cage that was placed on the stage. But immediately the music started and Musulyn’s voice dowsed the looming curiosity. She sang Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’, the judges felt she struggled through her song, but the faculty promised to deal with it in the Academy. Taking the mood higher was Christian performing ‘Pay Phone’ by Maroon 5; which earned him a loud ovation from the audience.

Leona Lewis should be very impressed with Sonia’s interpretation of her ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters’. Sonia sitting on a stool, gave an excellent performance that brought tears to her eyes.  While the audience were still recovering from this beautiful rendition, Adetoun came forward and swept everyone away with Anita Baker’s ‘Sweet Love’.

Next was Ayo who amazed everyone with Lonestar ‘s ‘Amazed’. Chinyere safely delivered Bette Midler’s ‘From A Distance’. Oyinkansade gave a pleasant surprise to his tutors, judges and the viewers as he performed Richard Marc’s ‘Here Waiting’. His growth was well commended which made the faculty so proud. Grace also did a nice one with Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’.

Nomination show 4: A Night Of African Classics!

It was a night of high expectations where the contestants pleased everyone with hits from African legends. The night was a dance dance and more dance fiesta. TY Mix who was absent sure missed so much, and Cobhams Asuquo and OnomeOyaide (OAP-Rhythm) had a swell day with the thrills from the contestants. The band-Adrenalin were in top spirit and on top of their game coupled with the fact that almost everyone was clad in beautiful African attires, it was indeed a colourful and African show.

Ayo opened the floor with King Sunny Ade's 'Shokoyokoto'. His performance was a grand opening which earned him a loud ovation and accolades from both the judges and faculty. Next in line was pretty  Chinyere who seem to have dedicated Omawunmi's 'Love Nwantintin' to Joshua with the way she owned the song and gave her best to the performance.Next  was Musulyn, she stepped out of her comfort zone and her usual self with Angelique Kidjo's 'Adouma'.

Taking the show further was Christian singing Sir Shina Peters' 'Afro Juju'. He had a beautiful time dancing and singing and entertaining the audience.

Marvellous marvelled everyone and even the judges with Duncan Mighty's 'Obianuju'. Sonia did Onyeka Onwenu's 'Dancing In The Sun'. Oyinkansade pleased everyone with Adewale Ayuba's 'Bubble'. Didi and Adetoun were ended the show beautiful with two different genre of African music. While Didi rocked the stagewith Sir Rex Lawson's 'Adure' and Adetoun performed 'Gentle Lady' by Salawa Abeni. Her performance brought the show to a climax as she went on and on and almost did not want to end the music as she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

At the end of the show, the judges sincerely confessed they have enjoyed the day but their fate still lie in your hands, keep voting for your favourite.

To cast your vote, text contestant's unique number ONLY (Do Not add their names) to 306 from an MTN line if you are in Nigeria, Liberia and in S/Leone (from a Comium line). In Ghana text to 1740 from an MTN line.

A Nite of Evergreen Classics!

Monday, 21 November 2011 14:34
A Nite of Evergreen Classics!

The classics "By the rivers of Babylon" and "The Earth song" by Micheal Jackson were beautifully combined and performed by all 10 contestants featuring PlayHouse Voices, who glided in beautifully, taking everyone by surprise. This heralded the other songs on this night of evergreen songs.

Princess started the night with an emotion-racked "I am going down" by Rose Royce. The emotions were so intense it looked like she was going to cry. Both the judges and faculty were pleased and commended it as her best performance yet. Another passionately delivered performance from Rachael singing ‘Loving you’ by Minnie Ripeton got Nomoreloss to doff his cap for her performance, and both the judges and faculty on their feet. Isaac's "Just the two of Us" by Billy Withers was a beauty to watch as he sung passionately to his partner across a romantic flowered table.

Yvonne's rendition of "I will survive’ by Gloria Gaynor was riveting and the judges commended her growth although wanted to see more emotion. Ruth seemed to get off to a poor start as she began "Respect" by "Aretha Franklyn" and the judges caught on immediately too. Roy's attempt at Barry white's "My first, my last, my everything" was a good try, but the judges were expecting even more, the same was true for Ese who did Mary J. Blige's ‘Never too much’ about which the judges felt was below her usual exceptional performances.

Ethel's "Superwoman" by Karyn White was considered by the judges as not passionate enough for this stage of the competition. Velma singing ABBA's ‘I have a dream’ looked good but the judges picked up her flaws and handed out their judgement.

After all sung and done, the suspense of nomination for probation gripped all in the new ultima studio, as Tee Y Mix called the first contestant on probation out, it was Isaac, then Ethel and also Ese, Roy, Ruth, Velma. Of the six on probation only Ese has never been on the block before.

If you want any of them back in the academy  then start voting now, send their unique number to 306 from an MTN in Nigeria and Liberia and in Sierre Leone to 306 from a Comium line. Viewers in Ghana should send the unique number to 1739 from an MTN line.

Nomination show 5: Duet Delights + Incredible Cross Overs

The contestants over the past few weeks have grown immensely and Ella is fast catching up. It was a night of amazing duets and cover-versions.

To set the ball rolling for the duets, is Didi and Adetoun who performed 'Yesterday' by Toni Braxton and Trey Songz. Next was Christian and Musulyn who smoothly did Beyonce and R.Kelly's 'If I Were A Boy'. Ella proved her selection as she brilliantly performed 'Beauty and the Beast' by Peabo Bryson and Celine Dion, and finally was Ayo and Oyinkansade doing a fantastic one with with Tu face and 9ice's 'Street Credibility'.

Taking the show further was Adetoun who started the Cover-version phase of the evening's show with a Dance all version of Darey feat. 9ice 'Style Na Style'. Next was Didi singing a 'Makossa' version of Wande Coal's 'Ololufe'. Ayo blew everyone away with Afro beat version of Style plus' 'Olufunmi'.

Ella again proved herself with her Hip hop version of Rihanna's 'Unfaithful', and Marvellous marveled everyone with his Zouk version of John Legend's 'Ordinary People'. Up next was cute Christian who took up raggae act with Paul Play's 'Angel Of My Life'.(Musuyln's hip hop/rap version of oleku was completely off the hook), Finally for the night was Oyinkansade singing singing an R&B version of Wizkid's 'Holla At Your Boy'.

It was indeed a night of great musical ingenuity, but as usual their fate still lie in your hands. To vote for your favourite, text his/her unique number to 306 from an MTN line if in Nigeria, Liberia and Comium users in Sierra Leone and if in Ghana, text to 1740.

To everyone's surprise,PF5 threw another unexpected twist, when Joseph & Adora announced that the judges this season have the power of recall, and can bring back one deserving eliminated contestant. If the judges decide to make that interesting twist to bring back an eliminated contestant, who do you think it will be?
